Over past years very large amounts of data and information related to the livestock sector have been generated in Ethiopia. However much of this has been lost due to short institutional memories, poor storage and difficulties in retrieval of paper-based records and, more recently, loss of electronic records due to missing passwords, reformatted disks, failure to back-up files etc. These problems allied to poor dissemination of available data and information has seriously constrained the value and dissemination of information. This initiative will address this serious problem by collecting, storing and organizing as much existing data and information as possible and then making this resource available to livestock-sector stakeholders. Initially, this website would be livestock development knowledge repository and avail significant information source to stakeholders.
The knowledge base will devote to incorporate information in the spectrums of:
- Animal Health
- Livestock Production
- Trade and Marketing
- Livestock and Livelihoods
- Surveillance and Monitoring
- Public Health and Food Safety
- Animal Welfare
- Wild Life, Fisheries &Apiculture
- Veterinary Economics
- Policy, Legal and Strategy Documents
- Veterinary drug formulary and miscellaneous issues
Information from the knowledgebase can be used to help inform decision-making at all levels (community, kebeles, wereda, zonal regional, national, project, program and so on) and promote best practice.
