Fitsum Alemayehu Lemma (DVM, MSc, PGdipHET) born in Ethiopia in May, 1982, graduated with DVM from Addis Ababa University (AAU) in 2006. After completing his DVM degree, Dr. Fitsum worked in Haramaya University (HU), College of Veterinary Medicine at different capacity up to the rank Assistant professor. Later he joined Addis Kidan Milk processing facility for two years and Biotech plc as General Manager and also working as independent consultant for various national and international organizations.
After Joining, College of veterinary medicine Haramaya University, He went to Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI), India in 2008 to study MSc in Veterinary Virology. He later studied and completed his special joint MSc in Transboundary Animal Disease Management in 2011 from Freie Universitat Berlin, Germany and Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, AAU. He has over 12 years of experience in veterinary science (10 years within the university). Dr. Fitsum Alemayehu served as an assistant registrar in College of Veterinary Medicine, Jigjiga Campus, Epidemiology and research module team leader, Intermediate result 1 (IR1) Associate researcher PRIME-HU, USAID project.
Dr Fitsum has involved in different projects including as independent consultant in the assessment of Foot and Mouth and its Vaccine in Ethiopia; Status and Supply Chain for Ernest and Young firm and Statistical analysis of Household postharvest storage evaluation for USAID-RAIN project. He involved in the first standardization of Camel pasteurellosis and Anthrax Vaccine in Ethiopia in collaboration with National Veterinary Institute and Molecular detection of MERS-Corona Virus from bats in collaboration with National veterinary Institute and CIRAD. He also involved in the first aerial radio transmitter collaring and population census of Ethiopian elephants in collaboration with Elephant without borders. His continued researches involve in livestock infectious diseases, Animal health service delivery, livestock and livestock product marketing supply and value chain and so on. He was a PI and Co-investigator for several research projects and was recipient of funding from both domestic and international organizations. He has also participated and presented his work in different national and international conferences and authored and co-authored his work on different local and international journals.
