World Veterinary Day 2020: Environmental protection for improving animal and human health
Since created in the year 2000 by the World Veterinary Association, the annual World Veterinary Day (WVD) celebration has been providing great opportunity to celebrate the veterinary profession, and recognize the contributions of veterinarians to the health of animals and society.
In this particular year, April 25th marks the 20th WVD – and is celebrated with a Theme “Environmental protection for improving animal and human health.”
According to WVA, “as One Health advocates, veterinarians know that environmental, human and animal health are inextricably linked. Negative changes to our environment will ultimately harm ourselves and the animals in our care.” The actions of Veterinarians can help mitigate the effects of climate change. Therefore, this year’s WVD is good opportunity to celebrate the work of veterinarians to protect our environment.
The Ethiopian Veterinary Association, Secretariat office, would like to take this opportunity to duly acknowledge and recognize Veterinarians working in every parts of our country, for all the professionalism and commitment that you are putting together in keeping the welfare of animals, humans and that of the environment, safe.
As we are in an era of COVID-19 global pandemic, it is always important to mention that,
- Veterinarians should by all means protect themselves and those around them against COVID-19. As per the guidelines of WHO, vets working in different organizations need to make their workplace ready to halt the spread of the virus.
- More than ever, the time requires the solidarity of professions and professionals in the fight against COVID-19. Hence, vets could play monumental role in this regard.
In all our actions, let’s keep the safety of our Environment!
