SPANA Ethiopia Experts Visit EVA Office to Study the Socio-Economic Importance of Working Equids

On November 27, 2024, the Ethiopian Veterinary Association (EVA) had the pleasure of hosting a team of experts from SPANA Ethiopia at its headquarters. The team, comprising three professionals, visited the EVA office as part of their initiative to collect crucial data on the socio-economic contributions of working equids in Ethiopia.

The study aims to shed light on the vital role that working equids—such as horses, donkeys, and mules—play in supporting the livelihoods of millions across the country. These animals are indispensable in various sectors, including agriculture, transportation, and small-scale trade, particularly in rural and underserved areas.

During the visit, the SPANA Ethiopia team engaged with the CEO of EVA to gather insights, share perspectives, and discuss potential collaborations to enhance the welfare and productivity of working equids in Ethiopia. This initiative reflects both organizations’ commitment to improving the well-being of working animals and supporting the communities that rely on them.

EVA is proud to contribute to such important research and looks forward to the findings, which are expected to inform policies and practices that benefit working equids and their caretakers nationwide.
