Balako Gumi (Dr.)
Dr Balako is former and founding academic and research vice president of Bule Hora University. His research and field work experiences focus on public health, Epidemiology of zoonotic diseases in pastoralists and their livestock, specifically on rabies, brucellosis, tuberculosis and other zoonosis using one health approaches. Beyond professional expertise, he is from mobile pastoralist community in South Oromia region of Ethiopia. He has exercised pastoralists’ life in his pre-education time as part of his family livelihood to herd calves and small ruminants and later on work as the professional and development expert in South Oromia and Ethiopian Somali Pastoral Regions. He taught varies veterinary courses for DVM students at Jimma University College of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine and Addis Ababa University College of Veterinanry Medicine and Agriculture. He was coordinated Pastoral Livestock Production and Health sector of Borana Low Land Pastoral Development Project of GTZ (German Technical Cooperation) in Southern Ethiopia. He also worked as coordinator for the College Community Based Education Program at Jimma University College of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine.
